Jubilee Madness

I’m sure I’m not the only one to have noticed everyone is going mad for Jubilee related gubbins… and I don’t just mean party prepping supplies. Union Jack bunting is lining shop windows both physical and virtual and all things reminiscent of the Queen are popping up all over the place; collectible regal biscuit tins line the shelves of our supermarkets and Etsy is awash with Corgi paraphernalia. I have found it quite contagious and although I am yet to plan my bank holiday weekend I have had a good dig around in some boxes for vintage which marks the reign of Her Royal Highness or is suitable attire for a Jubilee street party. Here is a Polyvore set of my findings plus a couple of my favourite items I found elsewhere online… (and breath)

The magazine is a special edition of The Sunday Times magazine from 1977, a special issue about 1952 marking the silver jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II back in the day. It has some interesting articles about life in Britain for the first 25 years of her Reign. My personal favourite piece is the red, white and blue gingham apron, it’s just so beautifully handmade (circa 1962) and whoever made it cleverly created the illusion of stripes by smocking the gingham in just the right places. The corgis are salt and pepper pots. They’re so kitsch but I find myself oddly drawn to them.
