Every fifties dress needs a good petticoat to fill out the skirt, like this beautiful calf length stiff white cotton crinoline with lace hem. A classic undergarment circa mid 1940s -1950s made from a starch stiffed cotton shaped and bound at the waist, The Basque waist (big in bridalwear during the 1940s) is designed to enhance the hips, it is higher at the sides sloping down in a 'U' shape at the front and back so it hangs snugly on the hips. The slit opening at the waist closes with a hook and eye fastening. The skirt is a 46½ inches wide at the hem and edged with a cotton lace.
