Circa 1940s Mint Cream Smocked Nightdress

A beautifully hand-finished mint cream silk smock nightdress circa 1940s. Originally a nightdress but now acceptable for general wear this off-white pale turquoise silk dress has patterned purple smocking at the shoulders and neckline both front and back, plus a band of smocking at the front waist. A long side-mounded self-belt ties in a bow at the back. The smocking made up of Vandyke stitch and Trellis stitch is patterned with three shades of purple thread. The straps are reinforced with a white mesh and the belt, straps and neckline are all finished by hand. The hem falls below the knee.

Care Instructions: Cool handwash recommended.

Composition: Silk.

Condition: Fair condition; several small moth-holes in the skirt, the largest is 1cm, the rest are 0.5mm-3mm. One small hole at either end of the waist smocking.One 1.5cm grey mark on the left side. All vintage nightwear and lingerie has been intensively washed and ironed before being added to the site.
