In a world of increasingly corporate and branded identities, its rare to find something that really stands out, a real independent oasis in the desert of of primarks, new looks and blue bananas. And that is one of the reasons I love Nottingham, for it is home to ‘Twisted Playground’
A small almost claustrophobic pit of curiosities full to the brim with new and second hand items, a real treat to ‘delve’ in and see what you can find. whether you are looking for some nice heels, or a now rare pair of Swears, skirts, trousers, tops by companies like Spank or death kitty, leather jackets, badges, tshirts galore or just looking for some figures and trinkets for that shelf at home, you’ll find it all here. And if there is something you can’t find in the shop but really want, Dee the owner can and most probably will get it in for you. That’s customer service.
Its also nice to see a shop do well without a big online presence, no myspace, no website (yet) no official facebook group.. relying solely on word of mouth and being ‘just’ out of town is no mean feat for any new business and to have survived the recent economic problems and have a devoted customer base is definitely something inspiring.
Next time you are in Nottingham, I recommend you pop up and have a looksie for yourself, though make sure you nip to the cash machine first, you’ll find it hard pressed to leave without buying something!
Twisted Playground can be found at 3 Forest Road East, Nottingham, NG1 4HJ. Just a 10 minute walk from the city centre.

The Rag and Magpie blog is musings, updates, reviews, photos, tips, Q&A's and general ramblings of me (Bella, owner of Rag and Magpie) and my cohorts.
